Owning Your Work and Unsticking Things

February 07, 2025

You know that saying, “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead?”

Well, this letter is dedicated to proving that saying wrong for once.

I’m proud of our team and I trust you, the team. We’ve changed from an isolated team to one that sits at the center and intersection of other departments (who are bad-ass btw).

We are teaching, encouraging, and creating opportunities for other teams at Apptegy to do their best work.

Here are some of what’s been on my mind:

A. Look for opportunities to OWN your work. Or to say it another way, grab ownership and accountability for what you can—even if you aren’t the only person or team responsible.

Ask, what’s my part in this and how can I do better?

B. Look for stickiness or things that are stuck, and un-stick them. (Future letter coming on this soon.) Many projects and tasks get stuck for lack of ownership, clarity, or forgetfulness. Dig in and find ways to un-stick things. Review your week and look for what you committed to and then go deliver. Hold each other accountable too.

That’s it. That’s the letter.

Looking forward to this vacation and even more excited to come back (seriously—I love work).

Thanks for reading, Tyler

P.S. Keep thinking and acting on our questions of the year:

1. What would this look like if this was easy?

2. What would great look like?
